St Patrick. A Murderer???

Tonight as we were on a mercy dash to help grandma get her computer back online (we failed), cat's eyes (or reflector lights) were sparkling at us as we approached a traffic island.

Boo - What are those lights for?
Me - So we can see the traffic island in the dark
Boo (who is of Irish origin) - It's not the Ireland that
Chloe and Corrina live in though.

Small pause

Boo - What did St Patrick do again?
Me - He got rid of all the snakes in Ireland
Boo - Why?
Me - They didn't want snakes in Ireland
Boo - How did he get rid of the snakes?
Me - I really don't know
Boo - He killed them didn't he?
Me - Oh, I'm not sure that he killed them
Boo - Yes, he killed them, he killed them, he killed them. He killed all of them. That's how he did it.

So there you have the story of the snake murdering St Patrick as told by Leprechaun Boo. Actually she probably sounded like a wailing banshee as she said the last line!

I always thought the snakes tale was an analogy - the Druids were referred to thus and St Patrick brought Christianity and drove them out...

Which is why my grandmother hated the Irish (everything always led back to this - the fact is, her MIL was Irish and they were a handy group for her to hang all of her disdain on) because Ireland was Scottish before he came along, apparently!!

Out of the mouths of Babes. I love the cartoon, by the way. Given Boo's conversation, it's especially funny.

Jeanie - I didn't have Google in the car to provide me with further information... and giving her another story? Well that conversation would continue for way tooooooo long ;)

Guera - Leprechaun Boo is sooooooo excited about going to a '6 year old' birthday party

Alison - a little (???) melodrama from the backseat is okay, we have something like this everytime we get in the car!

Iris - I'll be sure to thank her for you :)

Lou - Is that the scariest St Patrick you ever did see though?
