Boo hadn't seen her dad for the last 6 weeks, or even spoken to him in this time. He sent me an SMS message on Monday requesting to see her on the weekend. I agreed that he could via SMS.
Boo has told me all week she wasn't going, so I had been stressing all week about the argument that was likely to ensue, but thought if he had telephoned instead I could have suggested something to facilitate some contact, so it was his problem.
Even when the doorbell rang this morning, she was insistent that she wasn't going.
She was bribed with a trip to the shops to choose a birthday present...
The little traitor went and hopped in his car! Here I was prepared to have her fight for her, and had been stressing about it, and she went with no issue. WTF???
She chose a $15 doll! If I'd given the offer, I would be at least $100 out of pocket!
Gosh, I'm going to have to teach her better!
Addit - If Boo wishes to go, I have no issues.
When she really doesn't want to go, I'm prepared to fight her corner.
I'm still angry at being forced to spend time with my father when I didn't want to.

It is so hard not to be your child's champion when your child does a flip like that - but as long as she knows you are always there, whatever decisions she makes you are worth 1000 dolls.
Well said Jeanie!
You are worth more than anything materialistic that he can offer her.
Amen to those 2 above me, I second their words. A champion for all seasons, a mother....
Jeanie - As long as she doesn't treat me like most of her dolls!!!
Tiff - I wish she'd make him part with more of his money, if she's going to choose materialism over me ;-)
Rhubarb - At least I have done the prep work in case she requires a champion next time!
(hugs) I think it's hard not to feel a little put out when they act for seemingly silly reasons, even thought we know they are just acting their age.
At least you know that sooner or later she'll see through his bribery. Maybe she already has and she's just milking him!
You're right, obviously, but she doesn't seem as firm in her distaste for being with him as you were with your father.
